GrainsConnects’ Reford, Saskatchewan location has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Grain
Merchant with at least 2 - 3 years of relevant industry experience. The Grain Merchant will manage
the procurement of grain and all associated contract management. Daily & weekly reporting on
crop, stocks, opportunities, competition and other industry information. Build and strengthen
relationships with not only growers, but buyers, advisors, agronomists, brokers, and other industry
leaders.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To procure grain from growers with the price specifications determined by GrainsConnect Trading
Team
- Promote the GrainsConnect network to attract more growers into our sites and support strategies
to improve our brand and perception with grower customers
- Develop and hold strong relationships with growers that promotes GrainsConnect’s strategies
- Develop and build relationships with other professionals within the industry, i.e., agronomist,
broker, advisors, agent, seed/chemical/fertilizer suppliers etc. to build the company brand and
to exchange market intelligence
- Accurately manage production estimates forecasting through understanding of the GrainsConnect
methodology of crop forecasting
- Be able to provide relevant, concise, and timely information to stakeholders as required within
a defined area, such as competitor pricing and activity, grower selling behaviour and crop
conditions, etc.
- Be the face of GrainsConnect by attending and organize growers’ meetings and relevant industry
events for promotion, i.e., silo meetings, plan before you plant, grain marketing information
session, field days etc.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Essential
- At least 2-3 years relevant industry experience
- Strong customer relationship skills
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- A self-starter and ability to work independently
- Contract development and negotiation experience
- Contract administration experiencE
- Intermediate level in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong analytical and innumeracy skills
- Adherence to ethical and business standards
Desirable
- Understanding of grain contracting
- Basic level of understanding in crop forecasting
- Understanding of grain supply chain e.g. storage and logistics and grain flows
- Degree in Agricultural Economics or Business
- Local knowledge and involvement within the community
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Post secondary degree or diploma
- Preference will be given to a degree in Agricultural Economics
